Model Portfolios

One system, built from portfolios with a clear job.

We don't pick investments account by account. We run a defined set of model portfolios, each with one job and its own written rules, and combine them to fit your plan.

Breakaway Financial Group builds every client portfolio from a defined set of model portfolios. Each one has a single job, such as broad diversification, steady dividend growth or exposure to assets that behave differently from stocks. Your risk profile decides which ones you hold and how much of each. Written rules decide what each one owns and when it changes.

Building blocks

Three building blocks

Every model portfolio belongs to one of three building blocks. Your risk profile, set in your financial plan, decides how much goes into each.

Core

The foundation. Broad, diversified global stock funds.

Equity

Focused portfolios of individual companies and industry funds, for growth.

Diversifiers

Bonds, gold and other assets chosen because they have historically behaved differently from stocks.

The portfolios

Each portfolio has one job

The Core block
Broad global stock portfolios

Broad global stock funds that lean toward the regions and investing styles currently leading. One version is built for smaller accounts. Another holds a fixed mix designed for taxable accounts, where fewer trades mean fewer taxable sales.

The Equity block
Global quality leaders

About 25 large, profitable companies that lead their industries worldwide, spread across sectors in roughly the same proportions as the S&P 500.

Dividend-growth stock portfolio

About 25 companies with growing dividends, strong finances and historically smaller price swings than the broad market.

Growth leaders

Up to 25 fast-growing, profitable companies whose share prices are leading the market. How we identify leadership

Industry and theme portfolio

Eight industry and theme funds, such as semiconductors, cybersecurity or energy, chosen for strength, with one fund per group so no single theme dominates.

Optional focused portfolios
High-conviction portfolio

About five focus ideas drawn from the strongest growth leaders, with positions sized up or down in set steps. Used only for clients who want it and whose accounts are large enough to hold it.

Crypto portfolio

A Bitcoin fund as the anchor, plus up to two other crypto holdings. A Bitcoin trend gauge decides whether the portfolio is fully invested, half in cash or all in cash. Available only to clients who choose it.

The Diversifiers block
Diversifiers

Bonds, gold and trend-following funds that have historically behaved differently from stocks. A short-term reserve version holds money for goals two to three years away. When longer-term bonds are in a downtrend, part of the money shifts to shorter-term and inflation-protected bonds. How we manage risk

One system

How companies graduate between portfolios

Our stock portfolios work as one system, not as separate products. A company can move between them as it matures. A fast grower in our growth portfolio can graduate to quality leaders once it becomes a large, established leader. A quality company whose growth slows and dividend rises can graduate to the dividend-growth portfolio.

Your accounts

Built to fit your accounts

Each stock portfolio needs a minimum account size to buy whole shares of every company it holds. Below that size, a broad index fund takes its place, so smaller accounts still follow the plan. The high-conviction portfolio has no stand-in and is used only above its minimum.

We also decide which account holds which portfolio, so each piece sits where it works best for taxes. See how we think about tax-aware investing

FAQ

Questions we hear often

Will my portfolio use all of these?

No. Most clients hold several, never all. Your risk profile, your accounts and what you are open to owning decide the combination.

Why does my account hold an index fund instead of individual stocks?

Some stock portfolios need a minimum account size to buy whole shares of every company. Below that size, a broad index fund stands in so the account still follows your plan.

Do I have to own crypto or individual stocks?

No. Crypto is available only to clients who choose it, and your planning questionnaire records whether you are open to individual stocks or concentrated growth.
